Backing System and King of the Hill FAQ for competitors

Last updated on Oct 25, 2024

FAQs:

  1. As a competitor, how do I join the ladder?

All competitors start unranked. Once you play your first match, you’ll be placed on the ladder based on your performance.

  2. How do competitors climb the ladder?

Win matches to climb! Defeating a higher-ranked competitor moves you up to their rank. If you lose, your rank drops along with everyone below you by one.

  3. Can they choose their opponent?

No, matches are automatically assigned. Our algorithm schedules matches based on availability to ensure fair and timely competitions, so direct challenges are not possible.

  4. How are matches scheduled?

Matches occur in two daily time slots. Assignments are based on player availability, with one match per slot to avoid overlap and ensure everyone has a fair chance to compete.

  5. What is the King of the Hill system?

The top competitor is crowned as the “King of the Hill.” Any competitor, regardless of rank, may challenge the King. If the King loses, they move down to Rank 2, and the challenger claims the top spot.

  6. What happens if the King loses?

After losing, the King enters a 3-day cooldown period, preventing them from challenging the new King during this time.

  7. What if a competitor can’t attend a match?

Missing a match results in an automatic forfeit. Persistent no-shows may lead to penalties, including rank loss or temporary suspension from the league.

  8. What’s the penalty for no-shows?

For your first no-show, you forfeit the match. Repeated offenses can lead to additional rank drops, temporary suspension, or potential removal from the league.

  9. What is relegation?

Relegation occurs if you lose 3 of your last 5 matches to lower-ranked competitors (with a 1.2x multiplier or below). If relegated, your rank will drop significantly based on the league structure.
